Deck, Layout and Equipment

We board the 42 foot C.H.B. “Oceania” at the stern via a large swim platform.  There is an outdoor shower and combination boarding and swim ladder for those who enjoy the water.  Climbing the ladder, we enter the fully enclosed and roomy sundeck.  It features a wet bar, refrigerator, ice maker cabin and counter space, teak sole, dock box and lots of space for lounging.  The central staircase gives access to the fly-bridge.  The canvas of the fly-bridge and sun deck has been regularly upgraded and maintained providing good ventilation when required.  The freshly painted fly-bridge is the favourite room on board for most passengers and is roomy while providing excellent visibility.  The helm area features a stainless-steel frame, padded, swiveling captain’s chair, plus stainless and teak wheel.  Additional seating is provided port and starboard. Fully enclosed with removable canvas, the fly-bridge is the perfect place to be in any weather.  On top of the sundeck is stowage for the inflatable dinghy (included) which is easily deployed with the use of the remote controlled electric crane.

Back on the sundeck, newly painted port and starboard passageways lead to the foredeck which is a favourite for sunbathing.  A stainless-steel bow pulpit with railings leading aft makes the walkway safe and secure.  With the boarding ladder in place, exit gates are available mid-ships on both port or starboard.  On the foredeck, a bowsprit with integrated anchor roller and electric windlass aid in anchoring.  Newly installed foredeck remote controls for the windlass are located on the foredeck. The controls are duplicated in the fly bridge.  Fender holders are placed on each side of the bow.

Returning to the sundeck, forward access to the interior of the vessel is down a short staircase which enters the salon.  You are immediately surrounded by the rich warmth of teak panelling and parquet flooring.  This area becomes a comfortable social area for 5 to 10 people at anchorage.  A green leather couch and reclining swivel chair enhance the room for passenger comfort. The central salon is designed for easy traffic flow.  Large handrails located on the ceiling give excellent stability while travelling the area with the boat in motion.

At the forward end of the salon (port side) is a breakfast bar that is open to the galley below.  On the starboard is the lower helm and pilot’s door for access to the deck. Down a few stairs and you are in a large galley kitchen with full fridge and freezer, microwave, propane three-burner stove, double stainless steel sink, pressurized hot/cold water system and ample storage space for food and utensils.  On the starboard side of the same area is a four-person dinette that converts into a double bed.

From the galley, we enter the large V-berth which sleeps two and has an adjoining washroom with sink, electric toilet, and shower capability.  Lots of storage space is available on the starboard side as well as below the V-berth.

Returning to the salon we move aft down a short flight to the master cabin past a combination washer and dryer stored behind cabinet doors.  The cabin has a queen size bed and washroom with electric toilet, sink, vanity and fully enclosed shower.  The room has lots of cupboard space, a cedar closet, plus large vanities on each side.  Four portholes and two large escape hatches to the swim deck in the stern, enhance ventilation and safety of the vessel.

With the warm and cooling powers of the heat pump systems, the complete telephone intercom, central vacuum, well-equipped navigation instrumentation, sturdy and legendary Lehman diesels, this well-designed vessel will fulfill many a skipper’s life-long dream.  She’s been to the Bahamas, the Great Lakes and regularly travels the Nova Scotian Atlantic coastline.
